Traveling on assignment with Charlie Shamp as part of the Destiny Encounters Crusade team was a God given desire fulfilled for me this past August. It was a trip that was definitely met with some warfare, but we still persisted to take the truth of Christ to one of the worlds darkest places – Benin, Africa.

Benin is well known as being the voodoo capital of the world, and is also one of the major ports where the slave trade to America began. The goal of our trip was to hold a crusade there – something that had not been done by any ministries outside of Benin for around 20 years. The region is rich with voodoo fetish markets, witchcraft and poverty.

We did several days of street ministry and when it came to the night before the crusade, the president declared that no-one could hold any gathering of 10 or more people due to Covid. Destiny Encounters had already gotten everything cleared and approved with the government prior to our arrival, but this act made it clear that there were some very dark and sinister plots against the work of God. It was heart-wrenching for us to not achieve every goal that we originally set out to achieve, but we persisted still throughout the remainder of the trip to go to the streets, hospitals, and even right smack into the middle of the fetish markets to bring the light of Christ.

We ultimately saw hundreds of salvations and healings, and were able to connect those that we ministered to with local Christian ministries who would walk them through discipleship. I am so thankful to everyone who contributed towards the trip, and ultimately to the harvest of souls into the Kingdom of God!
